This year’s Global Safety Day theme turns the spotlight on AI and digitalization

Each year on April 28, the International Labour Organization (ILO) leads the global observance of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The 2025 theme, “Revolutionizing Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalization at Work”, highlights how emerging technologies are beginning to shape the way organizations approach workplace safety.

For Odfjell, the theme resonates strongly with ongoing efforts to integrate digital solutions into daily operations. From electronic logbooks onboard to the development of the Odfjell AI chatbot, digitalization has opened new opportunities to improve data accuracy, assist decision-making, and support crew and office teams in their day-to-day work.

Still, while tools and systems may evolve, Odfjell’s approach to safety remains consistent.

‘We do not compromise on safety’

“That principle guides everything we do — from daily decisions to long-term strategies,” says CEO Harald Fotland. “AI and digital technologies are here to support us and our human judgment.

These tools help us make better decisions, faster, and with greater confidence. But we need to use them wisely - with care, responsibility, and unwavering commitment to keep our people and data safe and secure.”

As AI and digitalization become more embedded in global industries, Odfjell continues to chart a path that balances innovation with integrity, always putting safety first.
