Odfjell Celebrates 25 Years of Service with 11 Loyalty Awardees

Odfjell celebrated a significant milestone on December 11, 2024, as seafarers who have dedicated 25 years of exceptional service were honored. The dinner and awarding ceremony, held at Lanson Place Mall of Asia, brought together seafarers and colleagues for an evening of recognition and appreciation.

The program opened with a social hour, providing attendees an opportunity to connect and reflect on shared experiences. Hosted by Maritime/Cadetship Administrator Shaun Hendrick Dioko, the program formally began with welcome remarks from VP MPS Mr. Svend Foyn-Bruun, who highlighted the importance of loyalty and the lasting contributions of the awardees to Odfjell’s success. 

The heart of the evening was the Presentation of Awards, where this year’s honorees were recognized for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment over the past two decades. Each awardee’s story reflected a strong connection to Odfjell’s values, celebrating their vital roles in the company’s operations and growth. 

Bosun Robert Amora 
Robert Amora embarked on his Odfjell journey on December 19, 1998, as a Deck Cadet aboard Mare Queen. Over the years, he has served on vessels such as Bow Fighter, Bow Panther, and Bow Lancer, consistently demonstrating excellent performance. Known for his cooperative nature, Robert maintains a harmonious relationship with superiors, subordinates, and fellow crew members.

Chief Officer Rommel Baje 
Rommel Baje began his career with Odfjell on June 21, 1998, joining Bow Petros as a Deck Cadet. Early in his career, he also served aboard Bow Lion, Bow Panther, and Bow Fighter. His professionalism, dedication, and teamwork are well-recognized. Promoted to Chief Officer in April 2021, Rommel continues to uphold high standards of excellence in his role. 

Bosun Rolando Dela Cruz 
Joining Odfjell on August 21, 1997, as an Able Seaman, Rolando Dela Cruz first sailed on Bow Power. He later served on vessels including Bow Peace, Bow Cheetah, and Bow Pride. Rolando is a reliable and knowledgeable crew member who consistently performs his duties with expertise. 

Messman Nelson Flores
Nelson Flores started his Odfjell career as a Messman on November 14, 1998, aboard Bow Sea Old. Over the years, he served Bow Hunter, Bow Fortune, and Bow Gorgonilla. He is known for his professionalism and dependability. Nelson retired early in February 2024, and his colleagues wish him well in his retirement. 

Able Seaman Wilfredo Irica 
Wilfredo Irica joined Odfjell on April 18, 1997, serving as an Ordinary Seaman on NCC Tihamah. His experience includes time aboard Bow Flower, Bow Master, and Bow Pilot. A hardworking and dedicated crew member, Wilfredo’s expertise allows him to complete tasks with minimal supervision. 

Bosun Joseph Manuel 
Joseph Manuel began his Odfjell career as a Deck Cadet on NCC Jouf on June 28, 1997. His service spans vessels like Bow Mate, Bow Favour, and Bow Chain Old. Joseph is recognized for his positive attitude and thorough knowledge of his tasks. Currently, he is a team leader of the Material Protection Team (MPT). 

Chief Cook Ronaldo Piquero 
Ronaldo Piquero joined Odfjell on June 21, 1997, as a Messman aboard NCC Tihamah. His service extended to vessels such as Bow Capricorn, Bow Clipper, and Bow Cedar. Ronaldo is highly regarded for maintaining exceptional culinary standards and his reliability as head of the galley crew. 

Bosun Victor Saldavia 
Victor Saldavia has been with Odfjell since May 26, 1997, starting as an Able Seaman on Bow Spring Old. His experience includes serving on Bow Fortune, Bow Master, and Bow Santos. Victor’s dedication to his tasks and willingness to share his knowledge make him a valuable mentor and motivator to his colleagues. 

Chief Engineer Sherwin Roy Samudio 
Sherwin Roy Samudio started with Odfjell as an Engine Cadet on November 14, 1997, aboard NCC Tihamah. He later served on vessels like Bow Fagus, Bow Fortune, and Bow Heron. Promoted to Chief Engineer in October 2021, Sherwin is known for his strong work ethic, professionalism, and dedication. 

Second Engineer Alberto Semaña 
Alberto Semana joined Odfjell as a Fourth Engineer on July 18, 1998, serving aboard Bow Saphir. Over the years, he has worked on Bow Clipper, Bow Fagus, and Bow Mate. Promoted to Second Engineer in October 2003, Alberto is recognized for his cooperation and professionalism on board. 

Motorman Ruel Villegas 
Ruel Villegas began his Odfjell career on August 27, 1994, as an Engine Cadet aboard Mare Queen. He gained valuable experience serving on Bow Leopard, Bow Excellence, and Bow Mariner. Ruel is known for his initiative, extensive experience, and approachable nature. 

The dinner followed, accompanied by an audio-visual presentation that captured key moments and milestones from the awardees’ careers. A Toast to the Awardees, led by Team Lead Vessel Handler Wilen Villamor, added a heartfelt touch, honoring their dedication to excellence. 

The evening also included a special message of appreciation from Team Leader Crew and Family Affairs Olive De Vera, who thanked the wives of our seafarers:

“While we celebrate the loyalty award of your husband, we also want to take a moment to honor and give gratitude to the wife of our seafarers. You are the quiet strength behind the men who sail the seas, and your sacrifices often go unnoticed.” 

Representing the awardees, Chief Officer Rommel Baje expressed gratitude to the company for the opportunities and support that have shaped their careers: 

“Life at sea can be difficult, and the challenges we face can sometimes feel overwhelming, but it is the unwavering teamwork, the shared commitment to excellence, and the trust in one another that has always made this work so meaningful. In moments where we are close to giving up, we must remember that we are strong, we are capable, and we are not alone. 

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our company, to Odfjell, for this recognition. It has been a privilege to serve alongside my fellow crew members. Together, we are not just a crew—we are a family, bound by a shared purpose and collective responsibility to keep the seas safe, our ships running smoothly, and our commitment to our customers and loved ones.” 

In his Closing Remarks, Compliance and Competence Manager Captain Marlo Salayo commended the awardees for their unwavering commitment, reminding everyone of the important role each individual plays in the success of Odfjell. 

The event concluded with an acoustic performance and jamming session, creating a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere to end the evening.
