Bow Tiger officially named and launched

In a traditional and ceremonial event, the latest addition to our time charter fleet was officially named and launched on August 22. Bow Tiger is the last vessel in a series of eight 26k chemical tankers built at Asakawa in Japan. Now, just the finishing touches remain before she joins her sister vessels at sea.

Representatives from the Odfjell family and executive management, owners and dignitaries, suppliers and the yard team gathered for the official naming ceremony.

The ceremony marked another milestone in the relationship between Asakawa, Nissen, and Odfjell: No other yard has delivered more vessels to Odfjell’s current fleet, and the Nissen group is our number one tonnage provider.

In his address, Chair Laurence Odfjell appreciated the long-standing relationship:

“In a world of geopolitical uncertainty, having trustworthy relationships is more and more important. I would like to thank and congratulate the yard for a job very well done,” he said. “The Asakawa vessels are a true testimony to the famous tradition of shipbuilding in Japan.”

This ceremony was extra special for our Chair as it was the first time his wife Geraldine was the godmother, and their 10-year-old son Jon Alexander took part to witness the naming and launch.

Bow Tiger will join Odfjell’s fleet of 18 26k dwt vessels. These vessels have proven to be a versatile and important part of our global customer service. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is an essential part of Odfjell’s strategy and the addition of Bow Tiger to our fleet will further improve our environmental footprint.
